About
The Silverudd's Blue is a modern Swedish breed developed by Martin Silverudd, a parish priest and poultry geneticist who spent decades creating practical, productive chickens. His goal was to develop a hardy dual-purpose bird capable of laying large numbers of beautiful green eggs while thriving in Sweden's harsh climate. Although Silverudd passed away in 1986 before fully documenting his work, the breed was preserved by Swedish poultry enthusiasts and officially renamed Silverudd's Blue in 2016 to honor its creator.
Silverudd's Blues are active, intelligent birds that excel in free-range environments and are well adapted to cold weather. They come in black, blue, and splash varieties and are known for their excellent foraging ability, friendly disposition, and impressive egg production. Hens typically lay 200 to 250 green eggs each year, with shell colors ranging from light moss green to deep olive, making the Silverudd's Blue one of the most productive and sought-after green-egg-laying breeds in the world.
