Terms and Conditions

- We very much appreciate your business! We like to make ordering day-old chicks a predictable and pleasant experience for all our customers. So, all orders from Greenfire Farms are subject to the following terms and conditions, and any purchaser of chicks from Greenfire Farms agrees to these terms and conditions as a prerequisite of ordering. If you have any questions or concerns, please address them before you place your order. There are no exceptions to these terms and conditions, so please read them carefully and be sure you are willing to abide by them before ordering. If you are unwilling to abide by them without complaint, please do not place an order.
ORDERING.
- Orders may be placed right here through the shopping cart function on this website, you can email us your specific needs using the contact form, you can text us at (850)-900-6355, or call our toll-free order line during regular business hours at 1-866-954-2968. You should know that, yes, Greenfire Farms is a real working farm. Our very small crew stays busy taking care of our chickens and other livestock. We don’t have people sitting in cubicles processing orders. So, there may be a delay in responding to your inquiries. Please be patient.
MINIMUM ORDER.
- The minimum chick count needed per chick order is six (6) chicks. That can be any combination of day-old and/or 2-week-old chicks as long as there are 6 chicks in the order.
- If you wish to pick up your chicks locally and not have them shipped to you, we can lower the minimum to just 2 chicks. Please contact us if you would like us to setup an order that meets those parameters.
- If you wish to order fewer than 6 chicks and need the chicks shipped to you, please contact us with your request. We reserve the right to override the minimum on a case by case basis but not all requests will be approved. We will decide to approve or deny your request based on chick size and weather. We do not recommend ordering fewer than the minimum, as the 72-Hour Live Chick Guarantee will not apply in these cases. Please review the 72-hour live chick guarantee for more details on this guarantee. If we decide to approve your request to order less than the minimum, you will be informed of this forfeiture of the 72-hour live chick guarantee, either written or verbally, depending on the method of contact.
72-HR LIVE CHICK GUARANTEE.
- If you place an order for six (6) or more chicks, Greenfire Farms guarantees you will receive the number of chicks you ordered and that they will live for 72 hours after you receive them. This 72-hour period begins once you pickup your chicks from the post office. If you have fewer live birds than you ordered within 72 hours after delivery, we will reimburse you the value of the dead birds in the form of a credit or refund, depending on your preference. We will send replacement chicks on a case-by-case basis. To get your refund, credit, or replacement order, you must notify us of the loss within 72 hours after you receive the birds and provide a photo of any dead birds. This will be strictly enforced. You may send photos via email orders@greenfirefarms.com or text (850)-900-6355. If you do not pick up your chicks on the day they are available, the 72-hour live guarantee is null and void.
SHIPPING POLICY.
- Orders are not guaranteed to arrive overnight or by the estimated date/time on your tracking number. The USPS estimated delivery dates are frequently inaccurate, so please do not rely on the estimated delivery date provided by USPS as a firm date for delivery. We recommend checking the tracking updates regularly to see where the chicks are. Please note that we see the same updates visible on the tracking information as you do. If an extended delay occurs during shipping, you (the receiver) or us (the shipper) may file a claim through USPS. We will NOT refund you for shipping charges for orders that do not arrive by the estimated delivery date and/or time. See 9.5.5, g. HERE on the USPS website for information on the USPS Express postage refund policy. The $60 shipping charge includes postage, GroGel, feed, shipping materials, labor, Marek’s vaccination, and heat packs (when needed).
GENERAL SHIPPING INFORMATION.
- Orders are shipped on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and occasionally on Thursday of each week and will arrive within 1-3 days after they are shipped. You will be given a selection of available ship dates during the checkout process. We charge a flat rate of $60 for sending a "small" box of up to 20 chicks via USPS Priority Mail Express. An additional $60 shipping charge will be added to your order if your order is between 21 to 40 chicks, as we will ship your order in a "large" box. An additional $60 will be incurred for every additional 20 chicks on your order. We will email you the tracking number between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm EST the day the chicks ship. Please do not use the estimated date/time as a scheduled arrival time, as the USPS system is frequently inaccurate! Customers have reported that they saw a 4 to 6 day estimated delivery time, only for the order to arrive within 24 hours of being shipped.
- USPS Priority Mail Express is the fastest domestic service available from the USPS. Although we pay for this express service, WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOUR SHIPMENT WILL BE DELIVERED OVERNIGHT. USPS is ultimately responsible for the speed at which the Express mail moves, not us.
- Just before hatching, chicks absorb their yolk sac, which provides them with enough nutrients to sustain them for their first few days of life. We also include GroGel, chick feed, and heat packs (as needed) in the box to prepare them for shipment. Please remember that our 72-Hour Live Chick Guarantee will ensure that you will be reimbursed for any chicks that die within 72 hours after they arrive (see policy details above).
TIMING OF SHIPMENT.
- We do our best to accurately estimate ship dates, but it is only an estimate, and we can be wrong. It is difficult to precisely predict laying rates, fertility rates, and hatch rates, especially when dealing with small numbers of very rare animals. You should know that when you buy chicks, it is common to wait several months for delivery. Greenfire Farms is not a commercial hatchery, and frequently, the ‘factory’ that will produce your order consists of small flocks that may quit laying or experience fluctuations in fertility for many reasons. We will do our best to keep you as updated as possible about the status of your ship date.
PICKING UP YOUR CHICKS.
- It is your responsibility to pick up your chicks from the post office as soon as they arrive. Once you receive your shipping confirmation email, it is a good idea to contact your local post office to let them know you’re expecting an order of live chicks and to be sure you have the correct post office location for your zip code. Your local post office will call you when your order is available to be picked up. Please ensure you provide a good phone number, and if you can provide an alternate phone number as well, please do so when placing your order so the post office can contact you. Typically, your chicks will arrive 1-3 after your ship date. Most orders arrive within 1-2 days. If you do not pick up your chicks on the day they are available, the 72-hour live guarantee is null and void.
ORDER CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS.
- At Greenfire Farms, we are committed to delivering healthy, high-quality chicks and ensuring a seamless ordering experience. We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, and orders may need to be canceled. Order cancellations are done by request only and must be initiated through your account on our website or by contacting us.
- For hatching egg orders, cancellations must be made before 11:59 PM ET on the Friday before the estimated ship date to receive a full refund. Cancellations made after this time will incur a $20 cancellation fee. An exception to this policy is if we are unable to ship the order of hatching eggs as expected due to a sudden decrease in egg production or a drop in the recent viability for that breed, then you may cancel the order and receive a full refund.
- For chick orders, cancellations must be made at least 11 days before the estimated ship date to qualify for a full refund. This deadline falls on the Friday two weeks prior to your ship date. Any cancellations made after 11:59 PM ET on that Friday will result in a forfeiture of 50% of the order total. This policy applies to customers requesting a refund. For information on account credit policies, please refer to the section below.
ORDER CANCELLATIONS AND ACCOUNT CREDITS.
- At any point if you need to cancel your order, you have the option to receive 100% of your order total as an account credit eligible to be used towards any future orders on our website (greenfirefarms.com) and does not expire. For information about refunds, please refer to the refund policy above.
ORDER MODIFICATIONS AND RESCHEDULING
- You can modify your chick order (add or remove chicks from your order) up until 11:59 PM ET on the Monday before your estimated ship date. These modifications can be made directly through your account. If you need to make changes to your order the day of your scheduled ship date, please reach out to us via phone (call or text) or email as early in the day as possible for assistance. Requests made after 1 PM ET may not be seen in time.
- Orders can be rescheduled, based on availability, up to 12 days before your estimated ship date, at no additional cost or penalty. This can be done directly through your account. For requests made within 11 days of the scheduled ship date, a $15 rescheduling fee will apply.
- You can modify your egg order (add or remove hatching eggs from your order) up until the Friday before your estimated ship date at 11:59 PM ET. These modifications can be made directly through your account. If you want to make changes to your order after that time, please reach out to us via phone (call or text) or email for assistance.
- Hatching egg orders may not be rescheduled at any point. All eggs are shipped the week after the order is placed. So if you need to receive your order at a later date, the order will need to be cancelled and you can order at a later date that is more suitable with your schedule.
- Should we anticipate any difficulty fulfilling your order, we will proactively communicate with you to discuss rescheduling options. Any rescheduling will only occur with the customer's approval.
STRAIGHT RUN.
- The staff at Greenfire Farms is not trained to vent sex. The majority of the breeds that we offer will be sold as straight run chicks. This means they are unsexed. You will receive any combination of male and/or female chicks with your order. There is no way for us to guarantee that you will receive any specified quantity of male or female chicks UNLESS you order from our auto-sexing breeds. If you purchase unsexed chicks, you will not receive a refund or replacement chicks if you receive more males or females than you desired. We only guarantee sexed birds if you purchase chicks from our auto-sexing breeds (Cream Legbar, Bielefelder, and 55 Flowery Hen).
HATCHING EGGS.
- Our hatching egg shipping boxes are custom-made with foam inserts that will protect the eggs against most shipping-related damages. Receiving cracked or broken eggs is extremely rare! These boxes will be labeled clearly to hopefully ensure they have the safest journey possible from our farm to you. These boxes hold up to 12 eggs for standard and large fowl egg orders or up to 16 for bantam (Barbu de Watermael and Olandsk Dwarf) egg orders.
- We cannot combine multiple hatching egg orders since we cannot fit more eggs into one box than the amounts listed earlier.
- The hatching eggs will be shipped Priority through USPS for a flat rate of $35 for standard to large fowl eggs or $20 for bantam egg orders. If a shipping upgrade to Express is requested, the cost for the upgrade will be an extra $20 to $40 depending on the buyer’s location. You can request this shipping upgrade by contacting us after your order is placed.
- Every egg will have a number written on the shell that corresponds to the pen number that the egg was collected from. You will receive a list of what breed the pen number corresponds to in your order. We will also include a hatching guide in the box for your convenience.
- Please review individual breed pages for detailed breed information. We have disclaimers relating to any breed that has incorrect traits that are noticeable on the day of hatch, and these chicks should be culled if you are hatching for future breeding purposes. Please read individual breed pages for these disclaimers before you purchase eggs. No refunds will be given for chicks that hatch with incorrect traits. As with any structured breeding program, you should expect to make culls.
FERTILITY RATES AND HATCH RATES OF HATCHING EGGS.
- We do not guarantee the fertility rate or hatch rate of our hatching eggs. Please note that your results will be anywhere from 0% - 100%. You are purchasing eggs, not chicks! If you are not comfortable with this reality, do not purchase hatching eggs but instead purchase chicks.
- We will do our best to ensure we only ship good-looking eggs that are produced from pens that have a high viability percentage. We will also candle every egg to confirm that no eggs have cracks before being shipped. Please know that we want you to have a good hatch, but since there are too many variables that may impact the viability of the eggs once they leave our farm, we will not guarantee the fertility rate or hatch rate of the eggs.
PAYMENT.
- Full payment is due before the birds are shipped. We accept most major credit cards, Paypal, money orders, and personal checks. Paypal is orders@greenfirefarms.com. Please do not send payment if you do not have an order submitted. We respect your privacy and never share or sell your personal information with any third parties.

GIFT CERTIFICATES.
- If you purchased or were gifted a gift certificate (lucky you!) then you should know that the certificate doesn't expire. So you'll have plenty of time to put together your dream order! Once you purchase a gift certificate, you will receive an email with the gift certificate code. If you want to purchase it for someone else simply give the code to them by forwarding that email to them. If you lose that email with the code, don't worry. Just contact us and we can look up the order and send you a new email with the code. You can use a gift certificate on anything purchased through our website, and it may be used on multiple orders. Once the balance of the certificate is zeroed, the certificate will no longer work. Our gift certificates cannot be cashed out, so if for some reason you decide not to use the certificate, it would be best to gift it to someone who will. There will be no refunds on order cancellations of gift certificates. If you have any issues with a gift certificate, contact us.
USE OF OUR PHOTOS AND NAME.
- You do NOT have permission to use our photos and/or our farm name, Greenfire Farms, for any reason.
VACCINATIONS.
- You have the option to select yes or no for the Marek's vaccine during checkout. If we assist you and set up an order, we will confirm if you would like your chicks to be vaccinated or not. The order confirmation email that you will receive once an order is set up will also state the vaccination status for the order. If you would like us to change the vaccine status at any point before the chicks' ship date, please notify us and we can update the order.
- We offer the Marek's vaccination free of charge, and we strongly encourage that you choose to have your order of chicks vaccinated
- Please note that while the vaccine reduces the chance your birds will contract Marek's disease, the vaccine is not 100% effective. There is the possibility that vaccinated birds may later contract Marek’s if the disease is present on your property. Marek’s is very common in backyard flocks and can live for years in dander, even when no birds are present. Many recently imported breeds are especially susceptible to Marek’s strains found in America.
- Marek’s disease is NOT spread through the egg from parent to offspring. We will not refund or replace chicks that show symptoms of Marek’s after they are shipped.
NPIP.
- Our NPIP number is 58-1156. Your copy of the NPIP VS form 9-3 will be attached to your shipping confirmation email for your records. We will file a copy with the state. This is required.
QUARANTINE.
- We recommend that all birds received from Greenfire Farms be quarantined and observed for at least 30 days before exposing them to your chicken flock.
STARTED BIRDS (ADULTS OR JUVENILES).
- Availability for started birds is limited and we don't typically have many started birds available. Often, it will be faster for you to order chicks instead.
- Our birds are vaccinated for Marek’s disease at the day of hatch. Beginning in 2025, juvenile birds also received a Fowl Pox vaccine. By ordering juveniles or adults from us you are confirming that you are comfortable with the vaccine status of the birds.
- You may pickup started birds instead of having them shipped to you. Please contact us so we can make arrangements.
- If you would like to use a transport service we can make arrangements for them to pickup, please contact us so we can begin to make arrangements.
- If you choose to use USPS to ship the birds, we will use the USPS website to calculate an estimate for shipping cost; however, if the shipping cost is more than you paid you will be contacted to pay the difference. If the shipping ends up being less than you paid, then you will be refunded the difference for the unused shipping cost. Shipping started birds is more expensive than day-old chicks and seems like it continues to be more and more expensive each year. Typically, shipping costs for juveniles or adults will range from $100 to $200 per bird.
- Just like day-old chicks, the started birds will be shipped Express through USPS and you will be notified when they ship. We do not guarantee live arrival and we don’t offer a 72 hour guarantee for started birds, regardless of whether they are shipped or picked up. If we ship them, we will add gro gel and feed in the shipping boxes to help offer hydration and nutrients during their journey. If we have apples, we will add a few slices to the box as well.
- We don't ship juveniles or adults year-round, as weather and temperature conditions often limit our ability to ship them during the warmer months.
- We will never ship birds that appear unhealthy. Upon receiving the started bird, it is wise to quarantine the bird before exposing them to your flock. Ignoring to quarantine should be decided at your discretion and is not our recommendation.
- To be clear, there are no refunds for started birds. We hope that they arrive safely to you and are a welcome addition to your flock. We have shipped juvenile and adult birds many times with very minimal issues. Please contact us if you have specific questions about ordering a started bird. Once the order is placed, the order cancellation policy is in effect. Please be confident in your order before placing it and trust that we will do our best to make your ordering experience a positive one.
NO FARM VISITORS.
- We'd love to spend time with you on our farm, but we take biosecurity very seriously, and farm visits expose our flocks to the potential for inadvertent disease transmission. We simply can't take that risk, so we don't schedule farm tours or the pick up of orders on the farm.
- If you want to pick up your order locally, you can select local pickup for your shipping method during checkout. All local pickups are done off-site. We will meet in the parking lot of the Midway Post Office, which is located at 31000 Blue Star Highway, Midway, FL 32343 at 4:30 pm EST on the provided 'ship' date. This is where we deliver all of the orders we ship each week, so we can meet you the same time we are dropping off the rest of the orders. You will receive your order directly from us so there is no need to go inside the post office, as the post office workers will not have your order and will likely be very confused when you ask them about it. We will reach out to you to confirm pickup details if you don't hear from us, please contact us via phone or email. We can make arrangements to meet the day or two after the provided 'ship' date, but we will meet at the same location at 4:30 pm EST.
WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT.
- You should expect birds that reflect the fundamental attributes of the breed. You should not expect a cosmetically perfect bird. In fact, you should expect to find some defects in virtually every bird you raise. Just as every child is not destined to become a supermodel, every bird is not destined to win ribbons at shows. Only a tiny fraction of chickens conform to their breed standard in all respects. We do not represent that every bird we sell is show quality or is flawless. You should receive birds that can be the foundation for a breeding program that, with enough time and skill, can produce show-quality birds. You should also realize that the rarer the breed, the more likely you are to encounter problems related to inbreeding. For some breeds and varieties that we sell, the global breeding population consists of fewer than a dozen hens. We cull for obvious defects like crooked toes, but low fertility, low egg production, low disease resistance, and other challenges are not uncommon with extremely rare breeds. If you encounter these challenges when the birds become adults, you will need to address them with your breeding plan. We do not offer refunds beyond the 72-Hour Live Chick Guarantee.
