About
The Schijndelaar is a rare Dutch breed developed in the late 20th century by veterinarian Dr. Ruud Kaasenbrood, who set out to create a beautiful, productive chicken with a distinctive appearance and green egg-laying ability. Drawing from breeds including Araucanas, Sumatras, Dutch Crested Fowl, Leghorns, and Brabant fowl, he developed a bird that perfectly balances form and function. Today, Schijndelaars are prized for their elegant white plumage, flowing rooster tails, active and intelligent personalities, and dependable production of colorful eggs. Officially recognized in the Netherlands in 2001, the Schijndelaar remains a rarity outside Europe. Greenfire Farms is proud to have introduced the white variety to the United States, making this unique and fascinating breed available to American poultry enthusiasts!
