About

The Pavlovskaya is one of the world's oldest and most historically significant chicken breeds, originating in the village of Pavlovo, Russia, during the late 18th century. Highly prized throughout Imperial Russia for its beauty and hardiness, the breed is believed to have influenced many of Europe's crested and feather-legged chickens. Although it nearly vanished during the twentieth century and was once thought extinct, dedicated Russian breeders successfully restored the breed using historical records, artwork, and surviving genetic lines. Today, the Pavlovskaya remains a rare and highly sought-after heritage breed.

Known for its striking appearance, the Pavlovskaya features a dramatic crest, full beard and muffs, heavily feathered legs, and distinctive gold or silver spangled plumage. Despite their ornamental looks, these birds are exceptionally cold-hardy and active, thriving in a variety of environments. Hens lay approximately 70–90 small to medium white or tinted eggs annually and rarely go broody. While not known for productivity, the Pavlovskaya is treasured by poultry enthusiasts for its rarity, historical importance, and unmistakable beauty.
